Dante's Inferno

The fresco on the ceiling of Florence’s famous Duomo.

I heard somewhere once that the first thoughts in your mind after seeing this fresco would be of Dante’s Inferno and it’s depiction of the nine circles of hell- A very apt analogy.

The top of the dome let some light in which really enhanced the entire fresco (metaphor for hope?) .But I felt that instead of a shot showing the entire dome – this particular cross section spoke more to the subject.

The fresco actually depicts the Last Judgement and was painted between 1572 and 1579 by Giorgio Vasari and Frederico Zuccari.
