They say that the Great Wall of China is the only man-made object visible from space. This statement has been debunked and countered many times. But that does not take away the desire for many (if not most) of civilized mankind to see this awe inspiring structure.
Millions of people every year perform a pilgrimage type expedition to the Great Wall. First built by the first Emperor of China – Emperor Qin in 220 BC -It’s been destroyed and rebuilt many times since.
Is it worth it with all the crowds ? Undoubtably so ! Of course, to enjoy the environ in relatively less crowds – the key is to keep climbing. The crowd generally trickles down by the 3rd or 4th fortification.
Make sure to take your time here. A tour group probably will not give you that much time. I would recommend a custom tour where you can spend at least 4 or 5 hours here or just go there by yourself. It’s very easy to get there from Beijing.
Mind you its quite a physical challenge but then everything which is worth it in the world does require an effort.
